A Non-Governmental Organisation has donated 10 mobile toilets and bathrooms worth over N2.5 million to the National Youth Service Corps in Niger State.
The foundation, represented at the commissioning ceremony by Dr. Abubakar Abdullahi, who is also a member Board of Trustees, stated that the aim of providing the facilities was to have a more hygienic environment for the corps members to compliment government’s efforts.
According to Abdullahi: “In the past, we used to have few youth corps members with adequate facilities, but today the number has grown up with little funds to cater for the increased number of corps members.
“This is to compliment government’s support to the scheme so as to enhance the suitability of lives in the camps
“The Foundation was formed by the former NYSC members with a sole aim of tackling the challenges experienced due to the increasing number of corps members.
“Each unit of the facility cost about N250,000.
“Also, members who have good business plan are given loan through the foundation after proper assessment of the applicants, even as the fund has been jacked upward from N200,000 to N400,000.”
Abdullahi therefore urged ex-corps members to register with only N500 to become members as many have benefited from the scheme.
The Coordinator of the NYSC in Niger State, Steve Ehoda-Adi, who expressed satisfaction over the gesture said it has created value chain for use in the orientation camp, even as the hygiene of the camp is the first.
Ehoda-Adi, while advising beneficiaries to used them diligently, explained that the mobile toilet is attached to each of the hostels at the orientation camp.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Youths Development, represented by the Director of Youths Development in the ministry, Gomna Aliyu, applauded the Foundation for the laudable project, which he described as positive progress in the camp.
Aliyu promised that Niger State will continue to assist and support the scheme.
He said the state Governor, Dr. Muazu Babangida Aliyu, was known for this.
