Amoni Biambo, the Nigeria Football Federation Electoral Committee Chairman, said on Monday that it would be an abnormality to clear more contestants for the forthcoming football board election in Abuja.
Pressure is mounting for the committee to clear Taiwo Ogunjobi, former NFA Secretary-General, and Amanze Uchegbulam, former NFA First Vice-Chairman, for the election.
Pressure is also mounting on the committee to clear Suileman Kwande, member of the House of Representatives, and Lucky Ewa from Bayelsa State to contest the election.
Ogunjobi was unable to submit his form before the deadline due to the ban slammed on him by the NFA.
Uchegbulam and others failed to meet the deadline for submission and were subsequently disqualified.
Biambo said in a telephone interview in Abuja that any attempt to admit more people into the race would make a mockery of the election.
He said: “For me, we have passed that stage.
“We cannot be going back and forth.
“One cannot come to contest when everything has closed.
“Many woke up because of the current crisis.
“Let us be fair to ourselves.”
Ademola Olajire, Assistant Director of Communications of the NFF, had issued a statement saying that the congress would consider a new roadmap for the election.
Olajire said the new roadmap would among other things ensure that election into the NFF board was held within two weeks after the congress of Tuesday (today).
The NFF spokesperson, who cited FIFA’s letter dated August 21, said the congress would also decide on the composition of the electoral committee whose legitimacy had been put in doubt by some members.
The congress of the NFF had decided to shelve the much touted board election from its programme when it convenes in Abuja on Tuesday.
