The tenure of the embattled President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Alhaji Aminu Maigari, has ended, so says the Minister of Sports and Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Dr. Tammy Danagogo.
In a statement on Monday, backed with a copy of the resignation letter written and signed by Maigari, Danagogo said the decision of the Bauchi State-born sports administrator to quit was to pave the way for the peaceful resolution of the crisis that has engulfed Nigerian football in the past one month.
The statement, signed by the Special Assistant to the Minister of Sports on Media, Patrick Omorodion, stated: “The President of Nigeria Football Federation Alhaji Aminu Maigari has formally resigned his position on the board with effect from August 26, 2014.
“The Bauchi-born administrator resigned as NFF President on August 12, 2014 to pave way for a peaceful resolution of the crisis that engulfed the football federation shortly after the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
“Meanwhile, the tenure of the Aminu Miagari-led NFF Board expires by midnight August 25, 2014, a day before the congress where a new date for the Board election will be decided.”
It will be recalled that Maigari was reinstated by the World football governing body, FIFA, after he was removed by the other board members of the NFF.
Several offences ranging from financial recklessness, maladministration and high-handedness were levelled against Maigari in asking him to leave.
