The National Directorate of Employment (NDE), in Enugu has provided transient job opportunities for 53 youths who were selected under the 2023 Graduate Attachment Programme (GAP).
The programme, organised under the Special Public Works Department (SPWD) of the directorate, was aimed at sending participants to different organisations and government establishments where they would acquire job experiences after which they might be given permanent employment.
In an address, the Director-General (DG) of NDE, Mallam Abubakar Nuhu Fikpo, said that the GAP graduates would be attached to organisations where they would have first hand job experience that could give them job opportunities in future.
The DG, represented by the Enugu State Coordinator of the Directorate, Eugene Agu, hinted that while the participants would be undergoing the three-month attachment programme, they would be paid stipends by NDE for their transportation.
Fikpo charged the graduates to be of good behaviour in the establishments they are posted to and to be good ambassadors of the NDE.
Also speaking, the South East Zonal Director, NDE, Ifeoma Ezepue
, urged the participants to take the programme seriously, describing it as a life-changing opportunity.
Ezepue, represented by a staff in the agency, Isaac Jideofor, advised the graduates not to take the opportunity for granted because they might be given an opportunity to secure permanent employment.
The organiser of the programme and Head of Department, Special Public Works Department, Lucy Nna, commended the DG for counting Enugu worthy to participate in 2023 GAP.
“Many are called but few are chosen. 220 candidates applied to participate in the programme but only 53 were selected.

“I urge you to cool down and learn on the job and excel for you to be retained,’’ she said.
One of the beneficiaries, Michael Ezemba, expressed happiness for the opportunity given to them to be part of the GAP Programme.
He promised that they would be good ambassadors of the NDE and comfort themselves well in their places of posting.
