The Speaker, Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Alhaji Ibrahim Balarabe-Abdullahi, on Friday said that the state lawmakers would expedite passage of the 2017 appropriation bill to cushion the effect of the economic recession.
Balarabe-Abdullahi gave the assurance in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Lafia.
He said that quick passage of the bill would also improve the standard of living of the people of the state and help in the overall development of the country.
The speaker said that the infrastructure development witnessed in the state was as a result of the robust and progressive legislative programmes and bills passed by the assembly.
Balarabe-Abdullahi said that this had impacted positively on the lives of the people of the state.
He said: “I want to assure Governor Tanko Al-Makura of the readiness of the house to partner with the executive arm in order to fast-track development in the state.”
Balarabe-Abdullahi scored the performance of the 2016 budget high and called on the state government to ensure adequate implementation of the 2017 budget when finally passed into law.
He expressed optimism that the 2017 budget proposal by the governor would reduce the plight of the people of the state and also boost the socio-economic activities of the people.
The speaker assured the people that the house would continue to enact laws that had direct impact on the lives of the people of the state.
He solicited the support of the people to enable the lawmakers succeed in the task ahead of them.
The speaker also appealed to the people of the state to continue to be law abiding and to live in peace, irrespective of their ethnic, religious or political affiliation.
NAN recalls that Governor Al-Makura, on December 15, presented the 2017 budget proposal of N67.1billion to the State House Assembly for consideration and approval.
