NANS to Aisha Buhari: Leaders must learn to overlook criticism

The National Association of Nigerian Students has said that leaders of the country must learn to overlook criticism if they must forger ahead.

NANS said this following the remand in prison of a student of Federal University, Dutse, Jigawa State, Aminu Adamu.

The student, who hails from Azare in Bauchi State, was arrested for criticising the First Lady, Aisha Buhari, on Twitter in June.

He was on Tuesday remanded in Suleja Prison in Niger State by a court in Abuja.

He had in June tweeted: “Su mama Anchi Kudin Talakawa an koshi,” meaning: “Mama has fed fat on poor people’s money.”

Reacting to the development, NANS said in the statement on Tuesday: “We want to, on behalf of all the Nigerian students, tender our unreserved apology to the first lady, Aisha Buhari, for the action of Mohammed which might have caused her and her family pains.

“However, as leaders and public office holders, we must overlook some criticisms if we want to really forge ahead and do the right thing.”
