MTN proposes $1.5b settlement for Nigeria fine

South Africa’s MTN Group has proposed a $1.51 billion or N300 billion payments to settle a $3.9 billion fine in Nigeria, a document released shows.
MTN was handed the penalty in October by the Nigeria Communications Commission.
This was for the company’s failure for missing the deadline to disconnect users with unregistered SIM cards.
President Muhammad Buhari said the act of the company assisted the Boko Haram insurgents in the North East as they had access to the MTN network to perpetrate their attroicities.
