A 38-year-old man, Ismaila Lawal, on Thursday appeared in an Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court for allegedly setting his girlfriend’s lover’s motorcycle on fire.
The Prosecutor, Insp Sunday Osanyintuyi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on June 6, around 2.25 am at Adejokun Compound Ilare, Ile-Ife.
Osanyintuyi said that the defendant broke into the house of Lawal Abdullahi with intent to commit felony therein.
He added that the defendant committed arson by setting Abdullahi’s Boxer Motorcycle on fire.
The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of sections 411 and 444 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.
The Defence Counsel, Okon Wonder, applied for the bail of his client in the most Liberal terms.
Magistrate A.A. Ayeni granted the prayer of the defence counsel and gave the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Ayeni ordered that the sureties must swear to affidavit of means, resides within the court jurisdiction and must be gainfully employed.
He adjourned the matter until July 20, for hearing.
