A 20-year-old man, Ofem Wisdom, on Thursday, appeared before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court accused of house-breaking and stealing N700,000, property of one Jolayemi Samuel.
Wisdom, whose address was not given, pleaded not guilty to two counts of house-breaking and stealing.
The prosecutor, Insp Caleb Leramo, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on June 13 at about 8:00 a.m in Ado-Ekiti.
Leramo alleged that the defendant broke into the house of Samuel and stole the cash sum of N700,000 belonging to the complainant.
According to him, the offences contravenes sections 413(1) and 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.
He urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him to study the case file and assemble his witnesses.
The Counsel for the defendant, Tope Almeel-Salami, urged the court to grant his client bail.
Almeel-Salami promised that the defendant would not jump bail.
The Chief Magistrate, Titilayo Ola-Olorun, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
She adjourned the case until July 21 for hearing.
