A delegation of Football Association of Malawi to Saturday’s 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifying match against the Super Eagles will arrive in Abuja on Thursday.
A statement issued by the Chief Media Officer of the Nigeria Football Federation, Ademola Olajire, said the contingent would leave Accra for Abuja on Thursday.
According to the statement, FAM’s General Secretary, Suzgo Nyirenda, arrived in Nigeria on Monday to inspect facilities for the match ahead of his contingent’s arrival.
Nyirenda, who wired a letter to FIFA last month suggesting that Calabar is not safe for the qualifying cracker, has turned around to praise the NFF for its professionalism.
Nyirenda also commended the NFF for its maturity and hospitality.
He said: “On behalf of the FAM, I would like to thank you and the entire NFA for the warm welcome that you accorded me and my accountant in Abuja and Calabar.
“We are now in Calabar where your Director of Technical (Dr. Emmanuel Ikpeme) gave us a fantastic reception.
“Thank you for welcoming us at your offices in Abuja.
“Football is a unifying factor and we are indeed brothers.
“We will be accommodated at DANNIC Hotel, which is generally very good.
“We will inspect the training pitch and the venue of the actual match.”
The statement said the NFF had already given the assurance that visas would be issued to members of the delegation on arrival.
It said that they would be flown to Calabar on Thursday.
