There was drama as a Magistrate Court in Minna, Niger State on Wednesdayordered that two lovebirds, Teni Mohammed and Umar Usman, be remanded in prison custody for allegedly engaging in prostitution.
The two lovebirds, Mohammed, a teenager, and Usman, her boyfriend who is in his early 20s, were arraigned in court on a count charge of indecent act contrary to sections 200 and 405 of the penal code law.
The Police prosecutor, Inspector Ahmed Saidu, told the court that the accused
persons were arrested and brought to court on August 11, 2014 by a team led by
Abdullahi Kuregi at Beji area of Bosso, Minna.
They however pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to them to the amusement of everyone in court, saying they are lovers.
The prosecutor further appealed to the court that investigation was still ongoing and asked for adjournment to enable police complete its investigation.
Saidu objected to their bail, stating that bail may jeopardize ongoing investigation and that they may jump bail as well if it was granted.
In his ruling, Magistrate Abdullahi Usman ordered that they should be remanded pending the outcome of investigation.
The case was adjourned till August 25 for further hearing.
