LMC should be encouraged, says Shorunmu

A former Super Eagles’ number one goalkeeper, Ike Shorunmu, on Thursday said that the League Management Company should be encouraged in its bid to reposition the league.
Shorunmu, who made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos, urged clubs to obey stipulated rules and regulations guiding the league.
Shorunmu, a member of the winning squad at the 2013 AFCON, said that discipline remained the hallmark of any league.
He said: “I played with Stationary Stores FC of Lagos and Shooting Stars of Ibadan in the 1990s’ and honestly speaking, discipline was something we did not joke with.
“Players always have the tendency to misbehave once in a while, but when they know the stand of their clubs towards indiscipline, they will behave.
“The clubs have so much to do by keeping these players grounded whenever they have disobey, they need to take responsibility and not blame match officials.
“The LMC should be encouraged, we knew what our league was like before the LMC took over and we shouldn’t let trivial issues that can be resolved slow us down.
“If any club has a problem with officiating, which also happens even in foreign leagues, all the manager needs to do is to report the issue to the appropriate quarters.’’
NAN reports that since the 2016/2017 league season kicked-off on January 14, there have been issues of club abandoning matches to perceived unfair officiating with the attendant fans unrest, among others.
