As the Plateau State Council of the Nigerian Union of Journalists is getting set to conduct election to usher in new executive officers, the Chairman of Kanke Local Government Area of the state, Hon. Ishaku Maikudi, has donated a Volkswagen mini bus to the union.
Maikudi said this was in honour to the outgoing executive committee.
Receiving the mini bus, the Chairman of the NUJ, Katdapba Gobum, who was accompanied by his Secretary, Isaac Shobayo of the Nigerian Tribune, expressed joy at the gesture.
Earlier the local government boss urged newsmen to shun any form of intimidation and violence that might destroy their future, especially now that they are about conducting the NUJ election in the state.
Maikudi encouraged the media to imbibe the culture of humanitarian service and be objective in their reportage.
He said: “I urge you to make use of this bus to the benefit of entire council during your electioneering campaign.
“This is an indication of showing appreciation to the members for contributing to the development of democracy in Nigeria.”
Maikudi emphasized on the need for the aspirants to place priority on the welfare of their members, which he said is key to the union’s struggle.
He called for cordial working relationship with the media to enable him discharge his functions effectively.
Maikudi promised to build a secretariat for the NUJ to help them report the transformation agenda of President Goodluck Jonathan.
