Lagos Island clashes continue with four dead, several vehicles and houses burnt

The crisis among youth groups on Lagos Island continued this evening, with the violence said to have spread to Adeniji Adele area.
The latest clash, which began in the wee hours of today was said to have left four persons dead, with several vehicles and houses burnt.
It was learnt that the youths employed the use of AK 47 rifles, cutlasses, knives, axes and other dangerous weapons.

Reports had it that some youths from Idungaran, Isale Eko, stormed Isalegangan Street (Onola) at about 2am to set ablaze with the use of petrol a two-storey building at 28, Isalegangan Street.
Several vehicles, said to be close to 70, were also reported to have been set ablaze or vandalised.
Areas affected by the mayhem included Agarawu Street, Isale Agbede, Aroloya and Tom Jones at Idumota.
The upcoming election of the National Union of Road Transport Workers is said to be the bone of contention.
While one youth group is reported to favour Alhaji Akanni Olohunwa, the other reportedly Alhaji Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo.
The impending change of baton has led to a serious clash within the union.
There has been no official statement from the police on the clash, which was still ongoing as at the time of going to press.
