As part of continuing measures to control the spread of coronavirus, the Lagos State Government has commenced the periodic fumigation/disinfection of its Ministries, Department and Agencies across the state.
A statement signed by the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tunji Bello, stated that the exercise was part of the resumption protocol/guidelines for the gradual opening of government offices within and outside the State Secretariat.
The statement emphasised that the State Government will continue to adopt measures to ensure that the COVID-19 pandemic does not further spread in the State, saying the fumigation exercise will be a continuous process until the fight against the novel virus is contained.
The exercise, which commenced on May 25, 2020, is expected to end on June 13, 2020, and will be carried out after the close of work on Fridays and weekends in order not to disrupt activities.
According to the schedule, the Ministry of Education, Office of Education Quality Assurance, Ministry of Wealth Creation & Employment, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Ministry of Home Affairs, Lagos State Liaison Office Annex, Lagos State Valuation Office, Lagos State Real Estate Transaction Department, Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Cooperatives and Lagos State Planning and Environmental Monitoring Authority will be fumigated on May 30, 2020.
Others are Ministry of Waterfront Infrastructure Development, Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, State Treasury Office, Ministry of Finance, Office of Finance, Ministry of Transportation, Ministry of Establishment, Training and Pensions, Central Business Districts Office, and Motor Vehicle Administration Agency to be fumigated on May 31, 2020.
The statement further listed Ministry of Youth and Social Development, Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Ministry of Science and Technology, Lagos State Safety Commission, Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget, Lagos State Water Regulatory Commission, Office of the Head of Service/PSO, Ministry of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Relations Management Services and Reforms Office as well as the Office of Transformation, Creativity and Innovation, which will be fumigated on June 6, 2020.
Other offices includes the Office of Public Private Partnership, Lagos State Public Procurement Agency, Office of Civic Engagement, Local Government Service Commission, Local Government Establishment and Pension Office, Teachers Establishment and Pension Office and the Office of Youth and Social Development to be fumigated on June 7, 2020.
The Office of the Governor, Office of Chief of Staff, Lagos Global, Lagos State Fire Service, Digital Village, Lagos State House of Assembly, LASEPA, LASEMA, Rapid Response Squad and Governor’s Monitoring Team Office are expected to be fumigated on June 12, 2020.
The last batch of the exercise comes up on June 13, 2020 and the offices and places to be covered include Land Bureau, Ministry of Physical planning and Urban Development, Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources, Lagos State Parks and Gardens Agency, Lagos State Signage and Advertisement Agency, JJT Park and Ndubuisi Kanu Park.
