Lady attacked for looking like a ‘kidnapper’

Just for looking battered and unkempt, a 25-year-old woman was almost killed on Friday at the Idimu/Egbeda area of Lagos State.
The mob was said to have pounced on the lady after she was seen sitting down and looking battered.
How she received the beating on her face and body is yet unknown, but the latest battering came from the mob at Idimu.
It was gathered that she would have been killed but for the intervention of policemen from the Area M Police Command.
It was learnt that the lady, apparently coming from an unknown location, stumbled to Ilepo Alhaji Bus Stop and sat on the pavement by the road.
Barely minutes after this, passersby gathered round her, attempting to interrogate her.
When they were not satisfied with her response, they attacked her.
In a video taken by an eyewitness, the lady looked severely beaten.
Her eye lids and lips were swollen.
The face was also covered with blood.
She said inaudibly among the noisy crowd that she was heading for Ejigbo area of Lagos where she was living.
One Adeola said people had mistaken the lady for a kidnapper because of her suspicious appearance and movement at the bus stop.
Adeola said: “I think people thought she was actually a kidnapper, as her body showed she had been severely beaten and probably escaped from somewhere.
“Actually, nobody caught any person with her being kidnapped here.
“So what happened was that she sat in the middle of the road and some of the people who then went to her claimed she must be a kidnapper.”
Another resident, who pleaded anonymity, added that when a police Inspector got to the scene, she had stopped by the crowd and had prevented them from further assaulting the lady.
