Kwara United targets Premier League return

The General Manager, Kwara United FC of Ilorin, Kwara State Alhaji Haruna Maigidasanma, on Monday restated the focus of the club to return to the Nigeria Premier League next season.
Maigidasanma made the assertion in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.
The general manager said the club had resolved not to be distracted in its plans to return the elite league.
He said: “We are almost done raising a team capable of returning us back as soon as possible.
“That has been our focus in the last few weeks.
“I call on Kwarans both the supporters and fans of the club to support us as we can only do it together in peace and harmony.
“It is not only our job to return the team back to the Premier League, but also by the support of everyone.
“Our fans must also understand that the game of football is either you win or lose or they must take it like that because no team wins always.”
Maigidasanma expressed confidence in the ability of Samson Unuanel, the Technical Adviser of the team, to deliver on the mandate.
He added: “Let me tell you this if you don’t know: it took some high ranking stakeholders’ intervention to convince Unuanel to stay with us.
“We knew he can do it, that was why we allowed him to continue.
“He is a quality coach with modern experience.
“What led to our relegation at the end of last season was unfortunate.
“Remember we were comfortably in top four before the Warri Wolves incident.
“It is obvious that it was not Unuanel’s handiwork or the players’ fault that led us to the relegation.
“I am very sure if it was not because of the incident, we might probably be playing in a continental competition by now.”
The general manager commended sports writers for their support for the team but urged them to show more commitment by verifying issues before publication.
Kwara United was banished to Lokoja, Kogi State and had played some home games behind closed doors after a fan attacked a match official on August 31, 2013 during a Week 29 match in Ilorin.
The team was subsequently relegated to National Division One after failing to garner the required points in the Premier League.
