The trial of newly elected Kenyan President, Uhuru Kenyatta, at the International Criminal Court will begin on Nov. 12, the court said on Thursday.
Kenyatta is accused of orchestrating post-election ethnic violence in 2007, with the months of chaos leaving more than 1,000 people dead and displacing hundreds of thousands.
Kenyatta, who was elected in March as Kenya’s president, faces five counts of crimes against humanity, including murder, deportation and rape.
The president’s deputy, William Ruto, also faces a trial this year at The Hague-based ICC.
The two were on opposite sides in 2007.
The African Union (AU) has urged the ICC to drop the charges against the Kenyan leaders.
