Former Super Eagles’ skipper and mentor of Golden Eaglets’ Kelechi Iheanacho, Kanu Nwankwo, has advised the youngster to pick Arsenal ahead of all other clubs that are competing for his signature.
Kanu, who was at the FIFA Under-17 World Cup final in Abu Dhabi, United Arab emirates, held a long chat with Iheanacho as the interaction was to convince the player on his move to join a club in Europe.
The 17-year-old Iheanacho is considered to be the next big star of Nigerian football as his performance at the FIFA Under-17 World Cup was absolutely stunning, with six goals and seven assists.
Kanu also made his mark in the U-17 World Cup before joining Ajax and establishing a name in European football.
He later moved to Inter Milan, before joining the Gunners.
“I advised Kelechi Iheanacho to pick Arsenal over any other competitors and I strongly believe that working under the guidance of Arsene Wenger will help the youngster improve his skills. He obviously has the potential,” the former African footballer of the year observed.
Arsenal’s Steve Rowley and other scouts from all over the world in United Arab Emirates were pretty impressed by the Nigerian midfielder.
The tournament’s Golden Ball winner, who currently plays for Taye Academy, became a nightmare for Mexico’s defenders as he netted four goals in Nigeria’s 6-1 triumph over the Junior El Tri.
