A former international footballer, John Fashanu, has said former Abia State Governor, Orji Kalu, is good enough to succeed Sepp Blatter as the President of FIFA.
Fashanu, who spoke on a Channels Television programme on Tuesday, said the ‘Kalu for FIFA Presidency Organisation’ was ready to sell the former governor to the world.
He noted that Kalu was not an unknown face in the round leather game, but it was just normal to travel round to win the hearts of people who would determine the next president of FIFA.
Fashanu said: “I am so surprised that some Nigerians are even thinking what we are doing is a joke. People lack knowledge on football politics. I know everything about this game from marketing to politics and from active football to management.
“For 20 years I played at the highest level and I scored over 500 career goals. Kalu is very qualified. He knows many of those involved in world football politics, including Blatter himself.
“CAF President, Issa Hayatou, is a personal friend of Kalu. Same goes for Dr. Amos Adamu. He is a born-leader and a great football administrator. We all saw what he did with Enyimba. In two weeks he staged a friendly encounter with Inter Milan. This man knows who is who in the game and he is good enough to change the face of football.”
The Nigerian football Ambassador stressed that the campaign body’s trip round the world would only start after Kalu has given his final nod to serve world football.
“We are still working to tidy some things here in Nigeria but so far the response has been very massive. Some friends abroad are also excited about the project and so we are happy so far we have a good product to sell to the world,” Fashanu added.
