Another major breakthrough was recorded by the Joint Task Force in Borno State in the clampdown on members of Boko Haram, with the arrest on Sunday of a top commander of the dreaded sect, Mohammed Zangina.
The JTF said Zangina, popularly known as Mallam Abdullahi or Alhaji Musa, was arrested in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.
He was reported to have been arrested at about 12:30pm in the Government Reservation Area of Maiduguri during a special operation by the JTF.
A statement by the spokesman of the JTF, Lieutenant Colonel Sagir Musa, said Zangina is on the list of those declared wanted by the task force last year.
Sagir said Zangina coordinated most of the suicide attacks and bombings in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory; Jos, the Plateau State capital; Kaduna, the Kaduna State capital; Kano, the Kano State capital; and Potiskum in Yobe State.
Zangina was still being quizzed by the JTF.
In Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, on Friday, another wanted top member of the sect, Hassan Pagi Bukar, was arrested at the residence of a former member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Tijani Umara Kumalia, by the officers of the State Security Service.
