The President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, has described the removal of subsidy on petroleum products in Nigeria as a necessary move for the economy to grow.
Jonathan, who said though outrage and protest that attended the removal of the subsidy was a major challenge to the country, spoke yesterday when he met with the Secretary General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-Moon, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on the sidelines of the 18th African Union Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Governments.
Jonathan said: “The duration of the protest was challenging.
“But I am happy that it ended well.”
Ki-Moon also said removal of subsidy on petroleum products was necessary for economic growth even if it will be painful for the citizens initially.
