The Senate Joint Committee on Petroleum (Upstream, Downstream and Gas) on Thursday submitted its report on the Petroleum Industry Governance Bill to the chamber for consideration and passage.
This was even as the Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, stated that the lawmakers had broken a jinx with the submission of the report to the Red Chamber.
The Chairman of the Joint Committee on Petroleum (Upstream, Downstream and Gas), Senator Tayo Alasoadura, laid the report before the lawmakers at the plenary.
Speaking after laying the report, the Senate President said the journey of the PIB has never gone this far.
Saraki said: “I think the journey of the Petroleum Industry Governance Bill has never gone this far before.
“I think we are all proud that we have gone this far (on the bill) and we have finally broken this jinx.”
It could be recalled that Saraki in statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Sanni Onugu, said: “Barring any last minute changes, the Senate Joint Committee on Petroleum (Upstream, Downstream and Gas) will on 25th April lay the final report of the PIGB before the Senate for consideration and approval.
“According to a schedule on the final stages of the committee’s work, members of the committee will on Tuesday, 4th April 2017, hold their final joint meeting at a one-day retreat in Abuja.
“During the session, the committee members, among others, will receive further inputs, deliberate on their findings and recommendations, and conclude their report for submission to the Senate.
“Furthermore, they are expected to submit the final printed copy of the report to the Senate on April 6, 2017, while the main report is expected to be laid before the Senate on April 25, 2017, for final consideration and approval.”
