The Deputy Governor of Jigawa State, Alhaji Ibrahim Hassan, has been declared winner of Jigawa North East Senatorial District election, defeating five other contestants.
Announcing the result on Monday in Hadejia, the Returning Officer, Prof. Ahmed Garko, said Hassan scored 184,185 votes to defeat his closest opponent, Senator Ubali Shitu of the Peoples Democratic Party, who polled 103,039 votes.
He also said Kaugama Garba of SDP got 14,697; Ibrahim Mahmud of ADC scored 363; Jamilu Usman of DA polled 218 votes; while Abdullahi Muhammad of PPC scored 179 votes.
Garko said: “That Ibrahim Hassan of APC, having satisfied the requirements of the law and scored the highest number of votes, is hereby declared the winner and returned elected.”
The returning officer explained that the total votes cast were 310,725, with total valid votes at 302,927 and invalid votes put at 7,798.
Garko, who is with the Federal University, Dutse, said the total votes registered in the constituency were 576,561.
