The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Attahiru Jega, on Thursday x-rayed Saturday’s presidential and National Assembly elections with an assurance that subsequent elections in the country will be better.
Jega gave the assurance when he played host to the Chairman of the Senate Committee on INEC, Senator Andy Uba, and his House of Representatives counterpart, Hon. Jerry Manwe, in his office.
The INEC chairman explained that the conduct of the elections has shown a tremendous improvement in the nation’s electoral process, notwithstanding the challenges, which were not unexpected by the commission.
The challenges observed in the presidential election, he said, will be critically looked into with a view to guarding against them in the April 11 governorship election.
Jega expressed appreciation to all Nigerians for their support and understanding with the commission during the elections.
Speaking earlier, the chairmen of the committees disclosed that they were in INEC to express their happiness and give their commendation about the success recorded by the commission in the conduct of the election.
The federal lawmakers urged the commission to try to address the challenges witnessed in some parts of the country during the last elections.
They suggested that such challenges should be considered in the preparation to the upcoming governorship polls.
