The International Press Centre in Lagos, Nigeria has invited online journalists and bloggers who are engaged or interested in reporting governance and electoral issues ahead the 2019 elections to apply to attend a two-day workshop on conflict sensitive reporting.
The workshop, supported by the EU under Component 4b: Support to the media of the EU Support to Democratic Governance in Nigeria (EU-SDGN) project, seeks to build a professional media as catalysts of democratic accountability, credible elections and good governance.
The first phase of the workshop, which is scheduled for August 30 and 31, 2018 in Ibadan, Oyo State, shall have about 30 online journalists/bloggers drawn from Lagos, Oyo, Osun and Ogun States and environ.
The thrust of the workshop is to build the capacity of online journalists/bloggers in using online media for fair, balanced, language sensitive and conflict sensitive reporting of the elections.
Overall, the workshop shall focus on building the capacity of participants on professional and conflict sensitive reporting of the electoral processes.
The workshop shall also focus on ways to mitigate hate speech.
