Forty seven Chairmen of Political Parties under the auspices of Concerned Leaders have protested the candidature of Peter Ameh of the Progressives Peoples Alliance to contest the Chairmanship of the Inter-Party Advisory Council IPAC.
The position of the 47 chairmen is contained in a protest statement signed on their behalf by the National Chairmen of Independent Democrat, Chief Edozie Madu and Prof. Bankole Okowa of the Unity Party of Nigeria.
The statement was made available to the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja on Tuesday.
The chairmen allegedly accused Ameh of undermining the council and creating division after losing the organization’s election in 2015.
The Concerned Leaders of political parties also leveled allegations of financial misappropriation on Ameh when he served as the Council Secretary-General between 2014 and 2015.
They further demanded that Ameh should publicly render account of his stewardship when he was IPAC Secretary-General between 2014 and 2015.
The concerned political leader maintained that the crisis precipitated by Ameh had led to the current factionalisation of IPAC and the withholding of the sum of 850,000 dollars earmarked for the council under the Donor Basket Fund managed by UNDP/DGD III.
It said: “It also led to the UNDP/DGD III Office in Abuja to close down.|
“Our respective parties would like to know why you seek to lead an organization you factionalized and whether or not you are the right person to end the factionalization and restore unity among its members.
“We would also like to be reassured you will, this time around, accept the outcome of the forthcoming IPAC election if you lose again.
According to them, Ameh’s rendering of his stewardship as Secretary-General will enable members know the kind of person he is.
The parties’ leaders, therefore, expressed their worries over the suitability of Ameh to emerge as Chairman of IPAC and urged him to respond to the allegations leveled against him.
