A Jos, Plateau State-based group of Sports Editors has drummed support for the appointment of a former Deputy Governor of the state, Pauline Tallen, as the Minister of Sports.
The group’s leader and coordinator, Comrade Sadiq Sumbelep, in a chat with The Eagle Online said their plan to lobby for the appointment of the former deputy governor as sports minister was borne out of the assessment of her passion for sports.
Sumbelep appealed to the President-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari, to consider Tallen for ministerial nomination going by her records of performance while in office.
He said: “The group are veteran sports journalists and have confidence that if she is appointed, she will take sporting activities in the country to the next level.
“In view of her contribution to grassroots sport development in Plateau State during her tenure as sports commissioner and the founder of Shendam Private School Sports Development, we appeal that she should be considered for appointment as sports minister.”
Sumbelep emphasized that rural-urban sports development has been neglected by the past government, “so we express confidence the present regime will reawaken the situation”.
