Ranti Martins Soleye, a seasoned campaigner in Indian football, having consistently found his name in or around the top scorers list since 2004, is hoping to spread his wings and awaiting a call up to the Nigerian national football team, the Super Eagles.
Martins, who has had a difficult second season with Kolkata’s United Sports Club, is still confident that the call from the Super Eagles will come sooner rather than later.
“They have been in touch with me for some time now and I am hoping that I will get a chance when Nigeria is to play a couple of friendly matches in February or March,” Martins said.
To all the doubters, Martins hinted that the national team coach, Stephen Keshi, “does not look at where one plays and only has an eye for the quality of football.”
Having spent about a decade in Indian football, Martins is positive that the football in the country is moving in the right direction.
