Against the claims that Nigeria’s Vincent Enyeama is placed second in the race for the African crown, The Eagle Online can report that the Lille of France shot-stopper finished distant third behind the eventual winner, Yaya Toure, and the runner up, Gabonese, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
In a poll chart released by the Confederation of African Football, moments after the unveiling of Toure as the winner for the record fourth-time, Enyeama polled 105 votes.
He got the highest votes from Guinea and Swaziland, while his compatriot, Ahmed Musa, who finished fifth, was endorsed by Coach Stephen Keshi for the award.
It was however a landslide victory for Toure as he coasted home to the award with 26 countries out 39 that participated in the voting exercise.
He earned a total number of 175 votes.
The Manchester City star was endorsed by Angola, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Chad, Comoros, Congo, DR Conco, Egypt, Gambia, Liberia, Libya, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, Mauritius, Mozambique, Niger, Rwanda, Senegal, Seychelles, South Africa, South Sudan, Tunisia, Uganda and Zimbabwe.
Gabonese Aubameyang is placed distant second with 120 votes.
He was voted by his country, Gabon, and Botswana, while Ghanian star, Asamoah Gyan, with 94 votes, and Ahmed Musa, 78 votes, came fourth and fifth respectively.
