As Muslims the world over celebrate the 2020 Eid-el-Kabir, a former member of the House of Representatives and immediate past Chairman of the House committee on Financial Crimes, Hon. Kayode Oladele, has sent his greetings and called for prayers, even as the world is currently dealing with health and socio-economic consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Hon. Oladele said this in a statement on Friday.
He urged Nigerians to make individual sacrifices for the betterment of Nigerians and overall development of our country.
He enjoined all Muslims across the country to join other religious groups and pentecostal denominations in the country in prayers for God’s mercy and speedy end to COVID-19 pandemic as well as for the sustainable development of the country.
According to Oladele, the security situation in the country today is very critical but he assured Nigerians, particularly the Muslim faithful, that with prayers and God on our side, the country will surely overcome these seemingly intractable challenges.
Hon. Oladele also underscored the need for Nigerians to practice healthy living and admonished them to live in one accord with one another, noting that the bedrock of our greatness as a country depends on love both for one another and for the country as a whole.
He also urged Nigerians to strive for the promotion of equal rights and justice in the country without which it would be difficult to create an atmosphere of peace and human development.
Oladele seized the occasion to call for the amendment of the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria to make the Fundamental Objectives and Directive Principles of the State Policy justiciable.
According to him, these are the ideals and policies which governments at all levels are expected to pursue for the benefits of all Nigerians, but it is absurd that as novel as those objectives are, failure of the government to pursue them are not justiciable and, therefore, not enforceable.
