Gunmen kill OAU lecturer

Dr. Deji Adejobi, a lecturer in the Department of Agricultural Economics at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State, has been killed by suspected assassins.
Adejobi was killed at his residence located at the Dawn area, near Ife tollgate in Ile-Ife, Osun State.
According to Adejobi’s gateman, the assailants trailed the deceased to the house at exactly 10:10pm on Tuesday and shot him twice after shooting into the air to scare the residents of the community.
One of the children of the late lecturer, Oyin Adejobi, in an agonised voice narrated how her father was murdered in cold blood.
Oyin said: “As we finished our evening prayer at 10:05pm, dad drove into the compound and we overheard an argument between the gateman and some strange people.
“I quickly looked from the window and I saw another black car that entered our compound behind our dad’s car.
“Our gateman was querying the occupants of the other car but they hit him and ordered him to lie down.
“The men in the black car came out before dad could alight from his car and one of them shot into the air.
“Two of them advanced to dad’s car while others came inside.
“Grandma started begging those that came inside.
“Suddenly, we heard gunshot twice from the outside.
“The assailants left at 10:20pm and took dad’s car away.
“I overheard dad begging them that they should not take him away.
“When they left, we thought they took him away and we started praying for the safety of dad without knowing that he had been killed.
“When the police came, they saw his lifeless body in the flower.”
The younger brother of the deceased, who is also the Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Police Command, Prince Olumuyiwa Adejobi, described the death of his brother as very pathetic.
The PPRO of the Osun State Police Command, Folashade Odoro, while confirming the incident, said the command had commenced investigation into the matter.
Odoro promised that the police would fish out the killers.
The Public Relations Officer of the OAU, Abiodun Olanrewaju, said the death of Adejobi was very unfortunate.
Olanrewaju added that the management, members of staff and students of the university were very sad about the development.
“It is unfortunate that university lecturers have become the target of kidnappers, armed robbers and assassins,” he said.
Olanrewaju warned that the trend was dangerous for the education system in the country.
