The police in Lagos on Thursday arraigned two security men who allegedly stole hotel property worth N20 million.
Michael ThankGod and Francis Omaga, both 29, appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for conspiracy and stealing.
The residents of Egbeda, Lagos State, however, pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge.
According to the prosecutor, Inspector Funmi Akinleye, the defendants committed the offences on September 23 at JV Hotel on LASU-Igando Road, Isheri-Idimu, Lagos State.
Akinleye said that the management of the hotel employed the defendants from a security company to secure the property of the hotel under construction.
The prosecutor said that the defendants stole 100 pieces of inverter batteries, UK cable batteries, generators, air conditioners, laptops and electrical accessories, all valued at N20 million.
Akinleye also submitted that the defendants absconded after the alleged theft.
“The case was reported at a police station; the security company, from which the defendants came, was invited, and with their help, the defendants were apprehended,” she said.
The alleged offences contravene Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The Magistrate, O. O. Fajana, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Fajana adjourned the case until January 27 for mention.
