A group, the North Central Coalition For Positive Change, has re-affirmed support for the candidature of Senator Abubakar Bukola Saraki for the position of the Senate president in the 8th National Assembly.
The group made its position known on Friday in a press statement in Jos, the Plateau State capital.
The statement was signed by the National Coordinator of the group, Hon. Lachang Faden.
The group appealed to members of the 8th Assembly to support the candidate of Saraki, saying he has every quality to unite the country under his leadership.
The group condemned the campaign of calumny by a section of the press against the person of Saraki and called on the leadership of the All Progressives Congress to be firm in its decision on the emergence of a Senate president.
The group lamented the action of their leaders in the North Central Zone and cautioned them against utterances capable tearing the people apart.
According to the statement, the group cautioned Nigerians against been used by outside forces to “jettison our quest for the Senate presidency”.
The group further stated that the ongoing campaign for the leadership of the National Assembly has further revealed the parochial interest “of some of our leaders but we are hopeful that our elected men and women in the National Assembly are people of honour that cannot act the script of an individual above the national interest”.
The statement called for “more understanding among the citizenry so that together we can build viable nation”.
