The Hallmark Group has commenced work on remodeling of the University of Ilorin (Unilorin) gate, with a 5-year maintenance pledge.
Speaking on the development, the institution’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Egbewole, commended the Chairman of the group, Dr Adeola Badru, for keeping to his promise to remodel the University Gate, as work commenced.
He observed that the Chairman of Hallmark Group has demonstrated that friendship is about giving and extending hands of fellowship.
Egbewole also expressed satisfaction with the architectural drawing of the proposed gate remodelling.
He appealed to the site workers to ensure that traffic control plans are followed to ensure smooth movement of vehicles in and out of the university campus during the period of construction.
The Vice Chancellor also enjoined Badru to help maintain the green lawn from the University Gate to Unilorin Water Junction.
According to him, the institution is open to more support and collaborations from the private sector and friends of the institution.
Speaking earlier, Badru noted that as a friend of the Vice Chancellor, the idea to assist the institution with the remodeling of its gate was mooted when he was visiting Unilorin on the day of Egbewole’s inauguration as the 11th Vice Chancellor.
He announced that his company would make another donation to the institution for the maintenance of the gate for five years upon completion of the project.
The Registrar, Dr Fola Olowoleni, commended Badru for his decision to remodel the gate, adding that for anyone visiting the Unilorin for the first time, the gate is the face of the university.
Olowoleni however called on the Hallmark Group CEO to also help with the drainage system leading to the university gate so as to preserve the beauty of the gate when completed.
Earlier in his opening remarks, Toyin Jimoh, the Acting Director of Physical Planning Unit, appreciated the philanthropist for his thoughtful gift to the university.
He urged other stakeholders to assist Unilorin to attain greater heights.
