Governor Mohammed Abubakar of Bauchi State on Monday dissolved the management committee and also sacked the coaching crew of Wikki Tourists Football Club of Bauchi.
Abubakar announced this after his meeting with the management of the team, which lasted for many hours.
He directed the club’s older coaches, who were on its payroll before the appointment of the Mohammed Babaganaru-led crew, to oversee the club’s affairs till a new management team is appointment.
Abubakar described the now former management committee led by Isa Matori and the team’s performance under him in the recent past as “an embarrassment to the state”.
He said: “I gave the management of the club all the support it needed to restore the past glory of the club and indeed make Bauchi State proud, but it was all to no avail.
“The poor performance of the club is so glaring, especially when it lost in its continental campaign both in Sierra Leone and in Nigeria.”
Abubakar had in March issued a warning to the club management to either improve on the team’s performance before April or be relieved of their appointments.
