Renowned Reggae gospel singer, Buchi Atuonwu, popularly known as Buchi by fans and lovers of gospel music across the world, has released his highly anticipated ninth studio album: “Alive & Well.”
The album, released on December 1, 2024, and now available on all music platforms, contains 10 songs and two bonus tracks.
Among the tracks Give Thanks, Alive and Well, Bamba, and King Jesus (featuring Olachi),
It was launched on Sunday at Kulture Yard, a lounge and relaxation centre for christians to enjoy good gospel music and enriching food in Ikeja, Lagos State.
Detailing the reason for the album title at the launch, Buchi said: “It’s a comeback, in a manner of speaking, but it’s not such a comeback because I never went away.
“I never went away.
“I’ve been very very busy and very active musically.
“Since 1999, when the first album dropped, until day before yesterday.
“This album is titled: ‘Alive and Well.’
Aptly titled because on the 13th of September, 2023, news broke that Buchi had passed.
“I woke up on aWednesday morning and saw hundreds of missed calls, my messages and people asking: ‘Is it you talking?’
“We later discovered that some people went to town with the news that I had passed.
“Anyways, it was all rumour, but the events following it were extraordinary.
“I don’t know if you have seen your own obituary.
“People were calling my wife and children and sending condolences.
“It took the intervention of Channels Television.
“I did a live interview.
“And the News Agency of Nigeria.
“But then I became more aware like never before that life is fleeting.
“What if it was true?
“What if those obituaries were real?
“Then I realised that every time we have left here is like an extra time.
“So you live your best, sing that song you’ve been saving, wear those clothes that you’ve been saving.
“Live everyday like it’s your last and bless lives.
“So I chose to use the rest of my time, energy and everything I have to unleash everything I believe to be the best of me musically and that is the reason these 10 new songs have come to life.
“Alive & Well.
“That is the reason for the title.”
Buchi, who is also a producer, author, and poet, added that the album “characteristically speaks to such themes as gratitude, God’s faithfulness and His sovereignty, seeking ultimately to draw the attention of humanity to God’s fatherhood and the availability and accessibility of His help to all, among some other salient themes”.
When asked why it took so long to release the new album, the Kaduna State-born song writer said: “I have been busy with music even though there many things that I do and I can run through some of them for you but musically speaking my first album was released in 1999 and every subsequent album have been coming at intervals of three years till my last album in 2020.
“This is the longest I’ve been without an album.

“So last year I was supposed to put out an album, going by the three-year interval, but for some reasons, I wasn’t quite ready.
“The songs were ready but I wasn’t ready.
“Then a word came to me that instead of maintaining the three-year thing, it was better for me to look at the time and put out something that will not just be a routine three-year release, but something that will be monumentally impactful.
“So, for the first time since my career, I stopped and didn’t put out an album in the third year, but now coming in the fourth year.”
“Alive & Well” is a complete gospel of Jesus in songs and rendered in a variety of reggae blends, offering something special for everyone, old and young.
