Gombe State says it has commenced the biometric verification of its 60,000 civil servants to determine the exact staff strength and block leakages.
Malam Aliyu Kamara, the Chairman of the State Biometric Verification exercise, told newsmen in Gombe Friday that 19,000 workers would be screened at the state level, while others would be screened in the 11 local government areas of the state.
Kamara said: “The aim of the exercise, which will last one month, is to come out with the exact figure of workers in Gombe State and also block leakages.
“The exercise is necessary because the income of the state is not even enough to serve the said 60,000 workers, much less attending to the social needs of the over three million Gombe citizens.”
Kamara said the major challenge faced was that quite a number of the workers did not have their documents intact.
