GIAMA returns with 4th edition

Organisers have released nominations into the 30 categories of the
Golden Icons Academy Movie Awards (GIAMA), revealing another
opportunity to celebrate keenly contestable, widely-involving movies
by filmmakers in Africa and the Diaspora.
Put together by Golden Icons Magazine, a Houston, Texas-based
celebrity publication, the awards show, according to the organisers,
celebrates ‘the very best of African entertainment and rich culture
through motion pictures.’
Publisher of Golden Icons Magazine and CEO of GIAMA, Mr. Bode Ojo,
stated that the nominations reveal the best of African films within
the period in review, with most submissions coming from countries such
as Nigeria, Ghana, Cameroon, Canada, and the United States.
Some of the filmmakers and works which show strength of dominance in
the Best Producer category include Lancelot Imasuen for Invasion 1897;
CJ Fiery Obasi for Ojuju; Dare & Lanre Fasasi for Head Gone; Moses
Inyang/Caroline Danjuma for Stalker; Jeta Amata for Black November;
and Okey Ezugwu for Jafar. While Imasuen, Inyang, Amata, and Dare
Fasasi resurface in the Best Director category, they will be slogging
it out with directors such as Chris Eneng Eneaji for Trials of Igho;
Muyiwa Aluko for Love Regardless and Ejim Fortune Kezi for The
Changer.
The award ceremony which is billed to take place in Houston, Texas, on
October 17, will be hosted by notable comedian cum actor, AY Makun.
Other films with nominations include While We Slept, Iya Alalake,
Verdict, Stigma, When Love Comes Around, Horn-free Day, Red Rose, The
Portrait, and Affairs of the Heart among others.
The Best actor category has the likes of Fredrick Leonard, Hakeem
Kae-Kasim, Majid Michel, Jim Iyke, Mike Omoregbee, Ken Erics and Clem
Ohameze contesting the diadem, while the Best Actress nominees are
Adesua Etomi, Uche Jombo, Ini Edo, Mbong Amata, Jackie Appiah, Nse
Ikpe Etim, and Ruth Kadiri.
