Ex-international, Garba Lawal, has thrown his weight behind Werder Bremen of Germany attacker, Joseph Akpala, to lead the Super Eagles’ attack at the Confederation Cup and the World Cup qualifier against Harambee Stars of Kenya.
The France ’98 Super Eagles’ midfielder submitted that Akpala will perfectly fit into the vacuum that was left by recuperating Emmanuel Emenike.
Lawal said: “For me, Akpala is a better striker and that’s not to underestimate what Mike (Eneramo) can do with the ball. He’s equally a good player and I have great respect for him but I believe Akpala has great techniques to lead the attack.
“He proved it while he was with FC Brugge of Belgium. He also did a great job for the national team against the French national team where he scored a great goal before their home fans.
“I think he deserves another chance to prove himself in the national team.”
Lawal was a former Roda FC of Holland midfielder and a member of the Nigeria Football Federation Technical Committee.
Akpala has so far played 27 league games, scored 13 times and also scored 6 goals in the UEFA Europa League this season.
