FRSC to arrest cyclists in Minna

The Niger State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps has condemned the ongoing trend that has seen underaged children ride bicycles as stunts on major roads in Minna, the state capital.
The FRSC said it will arrest riders and prosecute their parents.
The Niger State Sector Command of the FRSC said in a statement signed by the state’s Command’s Sector Commander, David Usman, that the act is posing a serious setback in the efforts of the state government and the Command toward drastic reduction of Road Traffic Crashes in the state.
It warned that the Command will henceforth not allow the ugly trend of underaged children riding bicycles on major roads in Minna to continue, stressing that the parents of these underaged law breakers should warn them never to engage in this acts again on major roads in Minna Metropolitan areas.
The statement said: “Any child that is found riding bicycle on any major road within Minna will be arrested and the parents will be prosecuted thereafter while such bicycle will be seized.”
The Corps however called on the general public for understanding and cooperation in fighting avoidable loss of valuable lives and property on Nigerian highways.
It could be recalled that the Niger State Government had on January 2, 2014 banned the use of motorcycles, otherwise known as Okada, as means of transportation in the state.
The statement reads further: “The ban has reduced to the barest minimum avoidable destruction of precious lives and valuable property not only in Minna but also on some of the highways in the state.”
