France on Wednesday denied that eight of its nationals fighting for Boko Haram insurgents were arrested by the Cameroonian military.
The French Ambassador to Nigeria, Jacques de Labriolle, told the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja that the report remained unconfirmed.
Labriolle also said that there was no diplomatic row between France and Cameroon as being reported in some sections of the media.
He said: “This is rubbish.
“Nobody has been arrested by anybody.
“There has never been any arrest of French people
“You know that when there was a crisis in Mali, some people went to Mali from France on the wrong side.
“Some people have gone from France to Syria and to Iraq on the wrong side just like others went to Afghanistan before.”
Labriolle, however, said such trend had not been noticed in the fight against Boko Haram.He said: ““I am not saying it is impossible in the future.
“What I am saying is that as at today, it is not true that eight French have been arrested.
“It is a rumour.
“Whoever is circulating it is wrong.”
