Sir Clement Chuku Foundation, has sponsored the registration of 100 students to write the 2023 West African Senior School Certificate Examination WASSCE in Ezinihitte Local Government Area of Imo.
Beneficiaries were drawn from Umuevu, Umuaghara and Umuvu villages in Onicha Nwenkwo town and from Obokwu Obizi village also in the local government area.
The Foundation’s Director of Protocol and Logistics, Dennis Osum, made the declaration at Onicha in Ezinihitte Local Government Area of Imo on Monday at an interaction with newsmen.
He represented the NGO’s founder, a U.S.-based lawyer, Ekeleoma Chuku.
He said the beneficiaries had been enjoying free preparatory tutorials since January and recalled that 30 students benefited from the scheme in 2022 and they performed well at the examination.
He added that gesture was borne out of the founder’s desire to preserve the legacies of her deceased father who had a strong penchant for education but lost a battle to prostate cancer.
“Our Foundation offers free WASSCE registration and free test and treatment for prostate cancer patients in memory of the late Sir Clement Chuku who died of complications from prostate cancer,’’ he said.
The NGO’s Director of Human Resources, Chinonye Ezurike, also told newsmen that it gave cash to 40 women of Onicha town during the cash crunch occasioned by CBN’s naira redesign policy.
She expressed confidence that the government would partner with the foundation in the near future to consolidate its successes.
One of the beneficiaries, Alphonsus Okoro, a student of Onicha Secondary School, Ezinihitte Mbaise, said he would pay back the foundation by working hard and excelling at the examination.
Another beneficiary, Miracle Ofoma, a student of Mbaise Girls High School, Onicha, thanked the foundation for the opportunity and prayed to God to reward the founder.
