Former first lady confirmed Niger Chief Judge

The Niger State House of Assembly on Wednesday confirmed Justice Fati Lami Abubakar as the state’s Chief Judge.
Abubakar had occupied the position in acting capacity.
The confirmation of Abubakar followed a motion moved by the member representing Lavun Constituency, Jacob Majin Gana.
Gana, who extolled the virtues of Justice Abubakar, described her as a distinguished jurist and a woman who devoted her time to the advancement of effective judicial system in Nigeria and Niger State in particular.
He said Abubakar has never been found wanting in the discharge of her constitutional duties, adding that even when her husband, General Abdulsalam Abubakar, was the Head of State, she did not abandon her office.
The member representing Chanchaga constituency, Jumai Jafaru, seconded the motion.
The Speaker, Barrister Adamu Usman, said the confirmation of the House was in compliance with Section 271 of the constitution and directed the Clerk to communicate to the state Governor, Dr. Babangida Aliyu, the resolution of the House.
