Former Ahly and Konyaspor striker, Ahmed Farag Bilal, was sentenced to 10 years in prison by an Egyptian court on Thursday.
The 34-year-old is accused of forging official documents submitted by an import/export company headed by Bilal.
The documents were submitted over two years ago to the General Authority for Investment, a government-owned and operated entity, and contained the forged signature of plaintiff Ahmed Sayed Moussa.
Five further witness accounts backed Moussa’s claims, while Bilal has been released on bail for the time being.
Ahmed Bilal scored 59 goals in 127 appearances for the Red Devils during his two stints there, and netted six goals in 30 Süper Lig matches for Konyaspor between 2005 and 2007.
His goals-to-games ratio with the Egyptian national team is impressive, with 20 goals in 26 caps for the Pharaohs.
