Fire on Wednesday engulfed the Nigeria Television Authority Jos Zonal Office located on the busy Yakubu Gowon Way in the Plateau State, throwing the area into confusion as people scurried to escape the raging flames.
The cause of the fire, which started at 3.15pm, had not been confirmed, but a top NTA source described the incident as “mysterious”.
A correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria, who rushed to the scene, observed that the flames raged from the top of the building.
NAN also observed that the flames from the one-storey structure were visible at about 500 metres away from the scene.
Among the structures already engulfed as at the time NAN correspondent reached the scene were the buildings housing the Marketing and Finance
Departments.
Also gutted were Engineering and Accounts Departments as well as items such as communication equipment, files and documents.
NAN correspondent also reports that three fire fighting vehicles arrived the scene about 40 minutes after the fire broke out.
Efforts to speak with NTA management staff, however, were not fruitful as they were busy rallying efforts to salvage the situation.
