Fighting corruption, a collective responsibility – PACAC

The Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption said on Wednesday that Nigerians must change their attitude in order to win the war against corruption.
Prof. Sadiq Radda, a member of the PACAC, said during a stakeholders meeting held in Kaduna, that there was need for value reorientation by Nigerians to effectively curtail corruption in the country.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the stakeholders meeting was organized in partnership with National Orientation Agency.
Radda while presenting a paper titled the “Role of values in the fight against corruption,” said fighting corruption is not a one man thing, but a collective effort for it to be total and successful.
Radda said: “If there is corruption in any society the price is going to be paid by everybody and if there is no corruption its means everybody is going to benefit.”
According to him, fighting corruption is also a moral obligations to every citizen “because its a problem created by us as Nigerians and therefore we should not wait for anybody to come and solve the problem, we must be ready no matter the consequences”.
He therefore stressed the need for Nigerians to use all necessary processes to stop corruption, so that the country would make steady progress.
The official said it was imperative for Nigerians to imbibe core values of honesty, transparency and accountability.
He said: “Ignoring them will be ignoring the stability of our society.”
He added that these core values must be taken seriously from families, school and other institutions so as to have a better society.
Also, Kaduna State Director of NOA, Alhaji Zubairu Soba, said the agency has been in the fore front of pushing for value reorientation among Nigerians so as to place the country on new path of progress and development.
Soba said the agency had brought about the teaching of civic education in primary and secondary schools, to imbue in the students the values of honesty, integrity, respect for constituted authority, social justice and hard work.
He said NOA was also engaged in activities to end cultism, malpractice and other vices in higher institutions of learning.
The director added that the ongoing voter education campaign by the agency ahead of the 2019 general elections, was to sensitise the electorate to choose leaders that would ensures delivery of good governance and fight against corruption.
He said: “We are calling on people to come out enmass and vote, it is only through voting you will discharge your civic responsibilities as patriotic citizens.
“If you don’t vote and we miss a quality leader to lead us, who are you going to blame?”
He appreciated the PACAC for collaborating with NOA to remind Nigerians of their responsibilities and rights, and to ensure they do what is right.
