J. Atete Football Club of Delta on Thursday in Enugu beat Top Round FC of Ekiti 1-0 in a 2016 Men’s Federation Cup match.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the only goal of the round of 32 match was scored by Samson Edje in the 25th minute.
Speaking after the match, the Chief Executive Officer of the club, Julius Atete, said he was overwhelmed by his team’s defeat of their opponents.
Atete said: “My happiness is that we are able to go beyond the round of 32 and we are now into the round 16.
“The players gave their all by winning this match, because it was not an easy one as Top Round also wanted to prove their worth.
“I am happy that the better team won at the end of the day.
“We never doubted our ability after beating a top-flight league side in the earlier round.”
Also in Enugu, Abia Angels of Abia defeated Confluence Queens of Lokoja 2-1 to move into the Women’s Federation Cup third round.
