The Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, has advised the All Progressives Congress and its presidential candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari, to take their impending defeat in Saturday’s election in good faith.
Buhari said the party and its candidate will be defeated heavily in the election.
According to him, President Goodluck Jonathan and the Peoples Democratic Party will through the election send Buhari on political retirement.
Fayose, who stated this through his Chief Press Secretary, Idowu Adelusi, in Ado-Ekiti on Sunday, added that the APC would, by the election, be taught a political lesson that elections are not won on pages of newspapers and through sheer propaganda.
The governor said the defeat would put an end to propaganda, bad mouthing and the noise of the APC, “because lies will always fail, while truth will stand the test of time”.
Fayose said it was imperative to offer the advice because of Buhari’s antecedent of inciting people to violence as his own response to defeat in elections, adding that the APC had always believed that any election it did not win was rigged.
He said: “The reason APC will fail woefully is because people have come to know it as a party peopled by liars, deceits and hypocrites who should not be entrusted with the leadership of this country.
“Even leaders of thought in the North have since withdrawn their support when they realised the agenda of certain APC leaders against the North.
“I can say it categorically that Buhari will be beaten silly and I am advising Buhari and his APC to take the impending defeat philosophically as an act of God.
“May be after this election, the party will change its name from APC to Panadol.”
Speaking further, Fayose said the APC represented bad luck for Nigeria, maintaining that there was nothing in the antecedents of the retired army general and other leaders of the APC that suggested any good thing for the nation and the people.
He added that Buhari’s stint as Head of State was characterised by pains and woes.
In another development, Fayose has said Nigerians will never succumb to the deceit and falsehood of the APC, addinging: “It is self deceit taken too far for anyone to list Ekiti as part of States to be won by the APC in the Saturday’s presidential election.”
The governor urged Nigerians to disregard the orchestrated opinion polls being published since Saturday in some newspapers, adding: “Fake opinion polls won’t assist the APC, the way it did not assist the party in the June 21, 2014 Ekiti governorship election.”
In a statement issued on Sunday by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, Governor Fayose said President Goodluck Jonathan will win the Saturday election, no matter how hard the APC tries in their game of deceit and falsehood.
Governor Fayose said: “When I saw the publications yesterday and today, I just laughed because I wondered how people can be so happy deceiving themselves.
“When you are telling yourself that Buhari will win in Ekiti, it shows that you are suffering from Acquired Self-deceit Syndrome, which is even more deadly than ebola disease.
“That’s the same way they deceived themselves with orchestrated opinion polls before the Ekiti election, and up till now, they are still dazed by the 16-0 defeat.
“Funny enough, one of the newspapers that published the orchestrated opinion polls described Ido-Osi Local Government Area of Ekiti State as a ‘sleepy town’ thinking that Ido-Osi was a town.”
Fayose urged the APC to “stop lying and face the reality of a lost election because President Jonathan will win convincingly”.
Governor Fayose described claim by the APC that there was “a plan to freeze the accounts of companies, individuals and organisations believed to be financing the party, with the ultimate objective of crippling the party so it won’t be able to sustain its activities,
like paying its agents on Election Day and other logistics,” as a face saving tactic by the APC.
He said: “They are already preparing the minds of their gullible supporters for the impending electoral woe that will befall the party on Saturday.
“When they lose, they will come out with story of how inability of the party financiers like Senator Bola Tinubu, Governor Rotimi Amaechi and others to access funds made Buhari to lose.
“I sympathise with them and I can only urge the APC and its leaders to try their luck in 2019. But then, they must purge themselves of the Acquired Self-deceit Syndrome because Nigeria presidency cannot be taken by falsehood.”
