Factional Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Hon. Dele Olugbemi, on Thursday alleged that the ousted speaker of the assembly, Dr. Adewale Omirin, and his deputy, Hon. Adetunji Orisalade, were not duly elected by the Assembly but were imposed by former Governor Kayode Fayemi against the wishes of leaders of the All Progressives Congress in the state.
Olugbemi was reacting to his APC counterparts’ visit to Osun State where they alleged that their lives were no longer safe in Ekiti State.
Olugbemi in a statement described the APC lawmakers visit to Osun State as “chasing shadows.
Olugbemi said: “Omirin could not say that he was duly elected by members of the assembly. Omirin’s emergence ran afoul of the selection of the constitution which made him not fit for the position.”
Olugbemi challenged Omirin “to swear by the Holy Bible if he was truly elected by the House members.
“If elections were conducted, Mr. Idowu Alabi or Sunday Adu would have emerged as the Speaker then.”
While charging Omirin to “stop bragging and face the realities of life”, Olugbemi said the former speaker should embrace peace and support Governor Fayose in moving Ekiti State forward.
He insisted that there is no illegality in last week’s removal of Omirin as the speaker of the Assembly.
